HORSE’s Aveiro plant (Portugal) has been producing gearboxes, mechanical components and hybrid products for the automotive industry since it opened in 1981.

Its location near Aveiro provides it with optimal access to infrastructure, which in turn fosters its economic development. It exports all of its output to eight countries on three continents.

HORSE Aveiro kicks off Production of E-Motor for Hybrids

HORSE Aveiro has started the production of HORSE’s all-new E-motor for hybrids and plug-in hybrids. This compact, powerful unit can propel a vehicle up to 130km/h when in EV mode, and is capable of as much as 49kW of power and 212Nm of torque in hybrid mode.

HORSE Aveiro’s four new production lines will be able to manufacture 160,000 eMotor units per year, along with assembling the unit, the Aveiro team will machine the motor’s housing, rotor shaft, and magnet in-house.

OUR HISTORY – BACK TO THE KEY DATE

1981: Cacia plant opened.

1996: Started producing for non-Renault Group carmakers, earned ISO 9002 certification.

1999: The plant was subsidiarized.

2000: Earned ISO 14001 certification.

2001: Focused operations on manufacturing ND casings and gearboxes for the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

2002: Discontinued JB gearbox production, started JR gearbox production and earned ISO 9001:2000 certification.

2006: 25th anniversary.

2007: Launched JR gearbox production.

2008: Launched ND4 gearbox production.

2009: Earned “Energy Rationalization” award from EDP (Portugal’s electricity company).

2010: Increased gearbox manufacturing capacity.

2011: 30th anniversary, reached 6.5 million gearbox milestone.

2014: Increased capacity dedicated to H5 parts and new projects (M9T Gen4 balancer shafts and H4 distribution housing).

2016: Portuguese Prime Minister visited the plant, signed a Competitiveness Agreement.

2018: Announced plans to manufacture the T4 gearbox during the Prime Minister’s visit.

2019: Prepared to produce the new JT4 (JX22) gearbox.

2020: Started producing the JX22 gearbox.

2021: 40th anniversary, broke production records with the new JX22 (JT4) gearbox.

2022: Entrusted with manufacturing the Power Electronic Box, which powers Renault Group’s hybrid powertrain.

2023: The Aveiro plant became part of HORSE on July 1st and launched a next-generation Smart Lab.

2024: Beginning of hybrid components production – E-motor & Power Electronic Box (PEB) and Award Winners at Robotics and Automation & Portugal Digital Awards
