Mioveni is one of the most complex powertrain plants on account of the number of products and processes it handles. It has been producing aluminium parts, engines and transmissions for Dacia, Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Daimler for 52 years. It is also home to the largest aluminium foundry in Renault Group (and in Romania).
It produces over one-third of the Group’s total aluminium output and a significant portion of Renault Group’s engine and transmission systems, including full 4×4 transmissions (a purpose-designed gearbox with a front module and final drive unit).
The powertrain R&D Centre in Titu is a standard-setter for engine, gearbox and software development, and for calibration and testing facilities.

HORSE Romania is committed to continuously avoiding and reducing the carbon footprint and health impacts from its design, manufacturing, sales and aftersales operations, and applies an ISO 14001 certified environmental management system. We also aim to continuously improve our environmental performance and ensure regulatory compliance. The Mioveni powertrain plant factors environmental variables into all its everyday activities and projects.
The Mioveni powertrain plant’s main goals are to sharpen its competitive edge and deliver high-quality products, as part of its role manufacturing engines and transmission systems that meet customers’ expectations worldwide. Our quality management system meets ISO 9001:2015 standard requirements and all applicable regulations. It places customers and their needs at the centre of our process management. Continuous improvement is at the core of this system.
3 million engines produced
The Mioveni powertrain plant celebrated its 3,000,000th engine milestone in autumn 2022. The unit was an ECO-G 100 mixed petrol and LPG engine (1 litre displacement, 100 hp and 170 Nm of torque), which was sent to a Dacia plant to power a Logan Prestige model for a Romanian customer. The staff also celebrated another milestone: the aluminium foundry’s 5,000,000th cylinder block. The foundry’s five casting presses currently produce cylinder blocks for the 1.0 litre TCe (HR10DET), 0.9 litre TCe (H4) and 1.0 litre SCe (BR10) engines.
1971: Started C engine and transmission production.
1999: Renault acquired a 51% controlling stake in Dacia.
2000: Launched E7J engine production.
2001: Started up JHx gearbox production.
2003: Started making F8Q engines.
2004: The K7x engine reached the production line.
2006: Founded Renault Mécanique Roumanie (RMR) SRL.
2008: The first TL4 gearbox rolled off RMR’s assembly line.
2010: Began making the first gearbox for 4×4 vehicles, the TL8, along with the front transfer module.
2012: First aluminium cylinder block cast made using HPDC (high-pressure die casting) technology.
2012: HR09 engine production started up.
2015: 500,000 HRxx engines.
2016: 3,000,000 JHx gearboxes.
2018: HR10 engine production began.
2018: Full 4×4 transmission production following manufacturing approval for the final drive unit, the R145.
2020: 4,000,000 Tx26 gearboxes and 2,500,000 HRxx engines; launched HR10 Euro6 D Full engine.
